Chhath Puja 2025 celebrations are at their peak, with massive gatherings expected at ghats and ponds across Delhi, UP, Bihar, and Jharkhand. With lakhs of devotees expected to perform rituals at riverbanks and water bodies, traffic congestion is likely across several parts from the afternoon of October 27 to the morning of October 28.
The Delhi Traffic Police to issue a detailed advisory on road closures, restrictions, and diversions.

Major Roads to Avoid During Chhath Puja in Delhi
According to the advisory shared on X by Delhi Traffic Police, heavy congestion is expected in East, Central, South, North-West, Outer, and West Delhi, particularly near popular ghats and ponds. Commuters are advised to avoid non-essential travel on the following stretches:
MB Road (Lal Kuan to Tughlakabad Extension)
Kalindi Kunj Khadar Road
Agra Canal Road
Road No. 13 and adjoining stretches
Traffic restrictions will remain in force from Monday afternoon (Oct 27) till Tuesday morning (Oct 28). Devotees are also urged to use public transport, especially the Delhi Metro, to avoid gridlocks.
Diversions and Closures Across Key Delhi Zones
East & Central Delhi
Bhajanpura: Commercial vehicles will not be allowed on GT Road (Shastri Park to Yudhishthir Setu) between 5 and 7 PM (Oct 27) and 5 and 7 AM (Oct 28).
Gandhi Nagar: Shantivan Loop and Laxmi Nagar to Kailash Nagar Road will remain closed from 5-6 PM (Oct 27) and 5-7 AM (Oct 28). Vehicles will be diverted via Disused Canal Road.
North and Northwest Delhi
Crowds are expected at major ghats, including Shyam Ghat (Jagatpur), Shani Mandir Ghat, Vaasudev Ghat (ISBT), Bhalswa Lake, Majlis Park metro station, and Surya Upasana Park (Dabri).
Traffic will be diverted around Bawana, Holambi Kalan, Narela, and Outer Ring Road stretches.
South and Southeast Delhi
Heavy traffic is expected at Bhola Ghat (Kalindi Kunj), Khasra No. 1575 (Aya Nagar), Shiv Ghat (Shri Ram Chowk), and Asthal Mandir (Sangam Vihar).
Motorists should expect delays on MB Road, Kalindi Kunj Khadar Road, Agra Canal Road, and Road No. 13.
Khajuri Khas and Sonia Vihar
Traffic heading towards Sonia Vihar will be diverted from Nanaksar to Old Wazirabad Road, while Sonia Vihar Border traffic will move from MCD Toll towards Sabhapur village.
Chhath Puja 2025: Traffic Updates in Other Cities
While Delhi remains the most affected, other major cities like Mumbai, Patna, and Lucknow are also witnessing localised congestion. In Mumbai, festive crowds have caused slow movement on SV Road and nearby stretches, though no official Chhath traffic advisory has been issued yet.
Meanwhile, in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, local administrations have deployed additional personnel to manage traffic and crowd control near major ghats.
Advisory for Commuters
The Delhi Traffic Police has advised the public to:
Prefer Delhi Metro and public transport over private vehicles.
Avoid parking near ghats or along approach roads.
Start early if travelling to or from New Delhi, Old Delhi, or Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations, and ISBTs.
Stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police personnel.
No restrictions are reported near major railway stations, but early travel is strongly recommended due to possible delays.
