Chhatt Puja celebration has officially begun in Purvanchal states like Bihar, Jharkhand & some parts of Uttar Pradesh. The festival is very highly looked up to and is one of the major festivals of the states. For the convenience of bank customers, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced the bank holiday schedule for the festival.

Chhath Puja Bank Holiday 2025: How Many Days Are Banks Closed?
According to the RBI holiday calendar, banks in Bihar and Jharkhand will remain closed for two consecutive days, October 27 and 28, to observe Chhath Puja and Chhath Puja (Morning Arghya). In West Bengal, banks will be closed only on October 27th.
It's important to note that Chhath Puja bank holiday is state-specific, and banks in other parts of India will function as usual. Customers are advised to plan ahead for any transactions involving cheques, deposits, or cash withdrawals to avoid inconvenience during the holidays.
What is Chhath Puja?
Chhath Puja is a major Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, celebrated primarily in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. Devotees of Chhath offer prayers to the setting and rising sun, seeking blessings for good health and well-being. The festival involves rituals like fasting, holy dips in rivers, and offerings known as Arghya at sunrise and sunset.
Bank Services During Chhath Puja Bank Holiday 2025
While physical bank branches will remain closed in the states observing the holiday, customers can continue to access digital banking services such as internet banking, mobile banking apps, UPI payments, and ATMs. Essential financial activities like fund transfers, bill payments, and online shopping can continue seamlessly, ensuring minimal disruption during the Chhath Puja bank holiday.

Residents in these states should plan their banking activities accordingly to avoid last-minute rushes.
Chhath Puja 2025: Schools Closed in Delhi and Other States
Schools, colleges, and government offices in Delhi will remain closed on Monday, October 27, 2025, for Chhath Puja, also called Pratihar Shashthi or Surya Shashthi. This holiday was announced by Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and confirmed by the General Administration Department.
Other states are also observing school holidays for Chhath Puja. In Uttar Pradesh, schools and colleges will be closed from October 26 to October 29, while in Bihar, the holiday lasts from October 26 to October 28. In West Bengal and Rajasthan, Chhath Puja falls on October 27, so schools will be closed on that day as well.
