Indian oil marketing companies have hiked the price of smaller gas cylinders from April 1. The 5 kg LPG cylinders, which are popularly called "Chhotu," is costlier by Rs 51 for this month. Apart from this, 19 kg LPG prices are hiked by Rs 195.50 to as high as Rs 218. LPG prices are witnessing a massive hike due to a supply crunch as the Middle East conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran has impacted oil and gas imports through the Strait of Hormuz. 88% of India's LPG imports pass through Hormuz, which has been closed for weeks now.
Unlike 14.2 kg and 19 kg LPG cylinders, the chhotu LPG is easily available without queues or booking lock-in periods.

5Kg LPG Prices In India:
From April 1, the cost of 5 kg LPG cylinders has increased by Rs 51. Earlier, Indian Oil explained on its website that Chhotu cylinders are easily available and low-cost. It is easily available across the counter through the IOCL Distributor Network & POS network at the cost of Rs 649 per cylinder. Hence, the prices have most likely neared the Rs 700 mark. The prices could vary from city to city.
5 kg LPG cylinders are called Bharat Gas Mini, HP Appu Gas and Indane Chhotu or Munna, with a weight of around 20 kg. These Chhotu cylinders are small, free-trade LPG available without the need for proof of address or a lengthy application process.

How To Book 5 kg LPG Cylinders In India?
Indane Chhotu Or Munna LPG Cylinder Booking:
As per Indian Oil, the Chhotu gas cylinder is available in almost every district across the country. You can avail Chhotu from an authorized Indane distributor or distributor-appointed Point of sales (eg. Kirana store, IndianOil Retail outlets etc.). Customers should contact their nearest Indane distributor for more details.
Customers do not require submitting address proofs or security deposits to buy 5Kg cylinders. However, they can avail Chhotu gas cylinders by submitting Government a recognized Proof of Identity (POI) only.
Indian Oil stated that Chhotu Master is Safe, Low cost, High Quality, Energy Efficient (more than 68% thermal efficiency), Reliable and High on Performance. It is also half of its existing cooktop offering. Generally, the target consumers for 5 kg cylinders are students, working professionals, migrants, workers and trekkers.
However, amidst the LPG shortage due to the Middle East conflict, 5Kg cylinders have witnessed a surge in demand across households because of their quick availability.
How To Buy 5kg LPG Cylinders: HP Gas APPU?
HP Gas Appu is readily available to customers at HP Gas Distributorships, select HP Retail Outlets, select Kirana stores, Utensil Shops and several other points of sale (POS).
The first purchase requires the customer to buy the cylinder and the gas regulator. At the time of a subsequent refill, only the Gas cost has to be paid.

In case you are moving cities or wish to return the cylinder and pressure regulator, you get a refund of either 50% of the purchase price of the cylinder and regulator (excluding the cost of gas and taxes) or Rs. 100 flat if the return date is 5 years after the purchase date.
LPG Prices In India Hiked:
In Kolkata, this gas cylinder price saw the largest increase by Rs 218 for April 2026. Further, the LPG price increased by Rs 203 in Chennai. However, LPG in Mumbai and Delhi witnessed Rs 196 and Rs 195.5 per cylinder hike.
