In a significant move towards advancing artificial intelligence (AI) in the business sector, tech giants Cognizant and Microsoft have joined forces. This collaboration aims to leverage Microsoft's generative AI and Copilots, intending to transform enterprise business operations, enhance employee experiences, and foster cross-industry innovation. The announcement made on Monday marks a pivotal step in the widespread adoption and integration of AI technologies.

As a testament to their commitment, Cognizant has acquired 25,000 Microsoft 365 Copilot seats for its associates. This acquisition also includes 500 Sales Copilot seats and 500 Services Copilot seats, designed to boost productivity, streamline workflows, and revolutionize customer experiences. Furthermore, Cognizant plans to deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot across its global clientele within the top 2000 companies, spanning 11 different industries.
The partnership also highlights an educational initiative through Cognizant’s Synapse skilling program. So far, 35,000 Cognizant developers have been trained on GitHub Copilot. An additional 40,000 developers are expected to undergo training, according to a media release. This initiative underscores the importance of equipping professionals with the necessary skills to navigate and innovate with AI technologies effectively.
Both companies have expressed optimism about the potential impact of their collaboration on AI adoption and innovation in India. With AI's expected contribution of USD 450–500 billion to India’s GDP by 2025—accounting for 10 per cent of the country's USD 5 trillion GDP target—the stakes are high. "Generative AI can be a game-changer for virtually every business in every industry," said Ravi Kumar S., CEO of Cognizant. He further announced Cognizant's investment of USD 1 billion in generative AI over the next three years, emphasizing the company's commitment to exploring AI's potential for clients and their end customers.
Judson Althoff, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Microsoft, echoed this sentiment. He highlighted the synergy between Cognizant’s industry expertise and Microsoft’s Copilot capabilities—including Copilot for Microsoft 365 and GitHub Copilot—as a driving force behind AI adoption and innovation for millions of users across its network.
This partnership between Cognizant and Microsoft is poised to set a new standard for how businesses leverage AI technologies. By combining resources, expertise, and a shared vision for the future of AI in enterprise operations, they aim to unlock new avenues for growth, efficiency, and innovation.
