As the mercury levels continue to soar across India, companies in the beverage and ice cream sectors are experiencing a significant uptick in demand. With the country gripped by an intense heatwave, brands like PepsiCo India and CocaCola are reporting a sharp increase in sales, driven by both in-home and out-of-home consumption. This surge is particularly noticeable in the eastern, northern, and central regions of India, where temperatures have been exceptionally high.

PepsiCo India, known for its diverse range of beverage brands including 7UP, Nimbooz, Pepsi, Slice, Mountain Dew, Gatorade, and Sting, has been proactive in ensuring the availability of its products. A spokesperson from PepsiCo India highlighted the company's efforts to keep their inventory stocked and accessible across various retail and e-commerce platforms. This strategy aims to meet the growing consumer demand for refreshing and hydrating options during these sweltering months.
Similarly, Coca-Cola India has observed a momentum gain in the Indian beverage market as the summer season peaks. The company's portfolio, which includes popular names like Coke, ThumsUP, Maaza, Sprite, and Minute Maid, has seen consistent growth in sales. According to a Coca-Cola India spokesperson, there is an optimistic outlook for the sparkling, hydration, and juice segments as they continue to refresh consumers with their beverages.
On the ice cream front, Havmor Ice Cream, now under South Korean confectionery giant LOTTE Wellfood Co., has ramped up production in response to the escalating demand. Komal Anand, Managing Director of Havmor Ice Cream, noted that this year's summer has outdone last year's warm season in terms of temperature highs. The company is preparing to meet this increased demand by enhancing production capacity at existing factories and planning a new facility in Pune set to start operations by July-August 2024.
Dabur India is another FMCG player witnessing a rise in demand for its summer-centric products. Anshul Gupta, Sales Head at Dabur India, pointed out that the intense heatwave conditions have spurred demand for their glucose portfolio. In anticipation of this trend, Dabur has stocked up on inventory at both retail and stockist levels. Furthermore, recognizing the need for instant energy and hydration solutions on-the-go, Dabur has expanded its glucose portfolio by entering the ready-to-drink glucose segment.
The ongoing spell of hot weather across India has not only affected daily life but also influenced consumer preferences towards products offering relief from the heat. Beverage and ice cream manufacturers are thus adapting their strategies to ensure they can cater to this surge in demand effectively. As summer progresses, these companies remain committed to keeping consumers cool and refreshed amidst the challenging temperatures.
