As the healthcare system in India continues to grapple with the deadly second wave of COVID-19, there is a serious shortage of O2 concentrators. Hindustan Unilever (HUL) announced on Tuesday that it would airlift 4,000 oxygen concentrators into India to help combat the country's extreme medical oxygen shortage.
HUL is working with the KVN Foundation and home healthcare provider Portea to make oxygen concentrators available as part of the "Project HO2PE" initiative.
The 4000 concentrators, dubbed 'Mission HO2PE,' will be sent to the worst-affected cities, such as Delhi, Lucknow, and Bangalore. Portea will have access to 3000 concentrators that will be provided to patients for free. HUL will donate the remainder to hospitals in approximately 20 locations throughout India.

Apart from this collaboration, the company is promoting and covering the cost of vaccination for its outer core of approximately 300,000 people, including those who work for manufacturers, distributors, and Shakti Ammas in rural areas.
HUL pledged Rs 100 crores to support communities affected by the pandemic last year. More than 100,000 migrant labour families were provided with 15-day food packs, and more than three million soaps were distributed to communities throughout India.
