Again amid the pandemic, electricity consumers are facing another difficulty as inflated electricity bills. As lockdown was put in place in the wake of Covid 19 situation since March 25, 2020, power distribution companies were not able to send their staff for meter reading.

As per reports, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) supplying electricity to 15 Telangana districts sent over its staff to various places after 3 months of lockdown and the bills came up taking into account cumulative consumption for the last 3 months.
Also some of the states including Telangana follow graded tariff system which for the first some units charge less and with an increase in consumption tariff keeps on spiralling. So, now with cumulative three months reading customers would have to shell out a huge sum as against billing for a month.
Consumers have taken to social media route and are putting up their grievance. Also, at some of the places people have been demanding waiver on electricity bills for the last 3 months.
"People are at homes due to lockdown. There's been no work, no wages. Suddenly, Andhra Pradesh government gives them this blown up bill generated through faulty slab systems. Can the common man pay? We demand YS Jagan Mohan Reddy waive bills for the last three months and provide relief to people," Naidu tweeted in May.
