DA Hike: The government will likely hike dearness allowance (DA) for certain Central Government employees drawing salaries as per the 6th pay commission and 5th pay commission soon. This has been announced by the Department of Public Enterprises of the Finance Ministry via an Office Memorandum on November 16, 2023.
These rates are applicable in the case of CIDA employees whose pay has been revised with effect from 01.01.2006 as per DPE O.M. dated 14.10.2008.

The DA payable to the employees may be enhanced from the existing rate of 221% to 230% with effect from July 1, 2023, said the memorandum.
The payment of dearness Allowance involving fractions of 50 paise and above may be rounded off to the next higher rupee and fractions of less than 50 paise may be ignored. The Office Memorandum said, "These rates are applicable in the case of CIDA employees whose pay has been revised with effect from 01.01.2006 as per DPE O.M. dated 14.10.2008."
DA hike calculation method as per the 6th pay commission?
The DA hike is calculated on the basic pay of a government employee. For instance, let us assume a Central Government employee is getting Rs 45,000 per month as basic pay and is drawing a salary in accordance with the 6th pay commission. At 212%, her DA was Rs 95,400. Now if this DA as per the office memorandum dated November 16, increases to 230% from the existing 212%, the DA will jump to Rs 1,03,500.
DA hiked for employees drawing salary as per 6th Pay Commission, 5th Pay Commission scales
It is worth mentioning that the government has already hiked the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees as well as pensioners drawing salaries as per the 7th Central Pay Commission to 46%. The revised rate is effective from July 1, 2023. However, central government employees and pensioners drawing salary or pension as per the 6th pay commission or 5th pay commission had been still awaiting a hike in DA or DR from the government.
