Delhi Budget Session 2025 Begins Today: CM Rekha Gupta To Table Budget, Kheer Ceremony Today: What To Expect?

Delhi Budget Session Begins Today: The five-day-long Delhi Budget Session is set to commence on Monday at 11 am. The first budget session of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government will witness many key decisions and announcements including the presentation of the Delhi Budget, CAG report of AAP government, etc.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta will move a motion for the election of financial committees, which will be followed by the presentation of the First Report of the Business Advisory Committee, according to the List of Business of the House. The Delhi Budget Session is also likely to witness ruckus from the opposition Aam Aadmi Party leaders as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report of the previous government during the session will also be presented today.

Monday's proceeding will commence with National Song, 'Vande Mataram' followed by series of events including discussion during Question Hour and other sessions. As the Delhi Budget Session 2025 begins today, here are the major events expected.

Delhi Budget Session to begin with kheer ceremony

Just like the Union Budget Session 2025 began with auspicious Halwa ceremony, Delhi Budget Session will begin today with Kheer ceremony. The symbolic "kheer ceremony" is scheduled to take place at 9 am after CM Rekha Gupta will mark the beginning of the session by serving kheer, a traditional Indian sweet dish.
The sweet dish made of rice, will be served to the other members of the Delhi Assembly, and the gesture is an indication of the idea of starting something new on a sweet note.

Delhi Budget to be tabled

A day after the beginning of the Delhi Budget Session, CM Rekha Gupta will present Delhi's Budget on Tuesday. This year's BJP session is based on the theme of 'Viksit Delhi' Budget. It aims to incorporate public suggestions received through different stakeholders of the society including educationists, farmers, social workers, and industrialists. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said that the government has received more than 10,000 suggestions over the same.

CAG Report

During the budget session, members of the assembly will present CAG report on the functioning of DTC in the House, reported ANI citing Delhi Assembly Secretariat's statement. The CAG report will be third in line after the BJP government tabled two CAG reports on the now scrapped excise policy and the healthcare system of the national capital, during the first assembly session held last month.

Business Advisory Committee report

Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and Member Om Prakash Sharma will presen the First Report of the Business Advisory Committee. The report is expected to provide details about the assembly's business and legislative agenda. Members Sanjay Goyal and Poonam Sharma will present the First Report of the Committee on Private Members' Bills, according to LoB.

Delhi Budget Session is an important period of the legislative calendar and during the period, key financial and policy matters will be discussed and decided upon. The session will begin today and conclude on March 28, 2025.
