Delhi Elections 2025 Updates: The voting for the 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly election has begun on Wednesday, February 5th. Parties like AAP, INC and BJP are in an intense riff-off for 70 constituencies in the national capital. Amidst this, the Haryana government and India's central government have declared a public holiday in February, which means that government offices will be closed as well. But are banks closed?
Public Holiday On February 5:
Last month, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, under the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) declared a public holiday on February 5th for the Delhi election alongside bye-elections of two assembly constituencies each in states like Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Further, the government's official statement said "This provision, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996), applies to employees who are registered voters of NCT of Delhi, allowing them to cast their vote in the general election," as reported by PTI.
The Haryana government also allowed workers of factories, shops, and private establishments to be eligible for paid leave for casting their votes in the state.
But what about banks?
Since the public holiday is declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881 and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act of 1951, all PSU banks will remain closed as well.
Bank Holiday On February 5?
Meanwhile, as per RBI's holiday list for February 2025, bank holidays are on February 3, February 11, February 12, February 15, February 19, February 20, February 26, and February 28 excluding second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.
