On Friday, the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi notified the launch of an Electric Vehicle Policy for the city, to promote the use of electric vehicles. Kejriwal said that the policy is valid for three years post which the government will review the outcome of the policy.

The AAP government will provide financial assistance of up to Rs 30,000 for two-wheelers, autos, e-rickshaws and freight vehicles and up to Rs 1.5 lakh for cars. It will also waive registration fee, road tax, and give low-interest loans on electric commercial vehicles.
He said that all the benefits offered in Delhi's EV policy will be applicable over and above the central government's FAME 2.0 scheme.
Kejriwal also announced a first-of-its-kind "scrapping incentive" under the electric vehicle policy for those looking to exchange their petrol or diesel vehicle for an electric one.
The Delhi Chief Minister said his government will set up 200 charging stations in a year to ensure that people driving these vehicles can get a charging station within the radius of three kilometers.
Calling the policy progressive, Kejriwal said that the government aims to generate employment in the national capital and reduce pollution levels. The chief minister hopes that 5 lakh new electric vehicles will be registered in Delhi in the next 5 years taking the percentage of these vehilces to 25 percent in the city from the current 0.29 percent.
An 'EV Cell' is established to implement the Electric Vehicle Policy in the national capital, Kejriwal said.
