The Delhi government is soon coming up with a very revolutionary platform called 'WhatsApp Governance' that will let residents access essential public services directly through WhatsApp.
This is going to make things very easy and will offer instant service delivery and make all the government processes more citizen-friendly.

How WhatsApp Governance Will Work
According to reports by the Indian Express, 25-30 services will be rolled out in the first phase, which include applying for the following services:
- Marriage certificates online via WhatsApp
- Driving licences in Delhi without visiting RTO offices
- Government document verification and downloads
- Other e-district services like birth and death certificates
In order to start, citizens will send a simple "Hi" to a dedicated WhatsApp number. An AI-powered chatbot, which will be available initially in Hindi and English, will guide them step by step. After completing digital verification, users can instantly download certificates, such as their marriage certificate or driving licence via a QR code or link to Delhi's e-District portal.
WhatsApp Governance is going to be very helpful and reduce the need to visit government offices, which will potentially reduce paperwork, and people will now be able to save themselves from long queues at the government offices.
Delhi's Strategy For Digital Governance
The new WhatsApp Governance initiative is a part of Delhi's e-governance and digital transformation programme, where the government is putting its effort into making services available 24x7 at citizens' fingertips.
The reports further hint that Meta (Facebook) is also likely to collaborate, bringing its WhatsApp Business API and generative AI for conversational interaction.
Major Benefits oF WhatsApp Governance for Delhi Citizens
With the introduction of WhatsApp Governance, there will be no need for multiple apps or office visits; citizens can get official documents directly on WhatsApp.
There will be more transparency since the process is automated, which will reduce manual errors and delays.
Also, this new platform will be integrated with platforms like Delhi Mitra, as per reports, enabling complaints and tracking through WhatsApp.
The Delhi WhatsApp Governance project could potentially have a good impact on public service delivery and make marriage certificate applications, driving licence issuance, and grievance filing as simple as sending a message. If this is implemented effectively, this 24x7 WhatsApp governance platform will be a huge step for e-governance measures in India.
