Delhi Police have detained three individuals, including a businessman's driver, for allegedly making extortion calls months after kidnapping him for a ransom of Rs 3,40,000 in Narela, outer north Delhi. The arrests were made on Tuesday, officials reported.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh stated that Rajiv Singh, who owns a business at Anaj Mandi in Narela, filed a complaint about extortion calls on August 28. Rajiv Singh claimed he received a call from an unknown number demanding Rs 4 lakh and threatening him and his family.
Extortion Calls and Investigation
Rajiv Singh initially kept the incident to himself due to the threats but later discussed it with friends and family before deciding to report it. "The complainant didn’t tell anybody about this incident because they had threatened him and his family. When they started calling him again, he discussed this with his friends and family and decided to file a complaint," the officer added.
A special team led by Inspector Pawan Singh was formed to investigate the extortion calls. The team listened to the calls to identify the suspects. Acting on a tip-off, they set up a trap near Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela early Tuesday morning.
Arrests Following Exchange of Fire
Upon spotting the police, Vinay opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate. Vinay sustained an injury to his left knee during the exchange. Both Vinay (30) and Vijay (31) were apprehended following this encounter. The businessman's driver, Sarvan (31), was arrested later in the day.
The police's swift action led to the capture of all three suspects involved in the extortion scheme. This incident highlights the importance of reporting threats to authorities promptly for effective resolution.
The investigation continues as officials gather more evidence against the accused. The police are also looking into any possible connections or motives behind the kidnapping and subsequent extortion attempts.
This case underscores the vigilance required by both citizens and law enforcement agencies in tackling such criminal activities. The cooperation between Rajiv Singh and the police played a crucial role in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The authorities urge anyone facing similar threats to come forward without delay, ensuring their safety and aiding in crime prevention efforts.
