The Delhi Police has arrested two people for allegedly trying to extort Rs 10 lakh from a south Delhi-based businessman by threatening him to convert his daughter's marriage into a mourning.
On October 31st, the Delhi Police apprehended two individuals for allegedly attempting to extort Rs. 10 lakh from a businessman based in South Delhi. The accused threatened to disrupt the businessman's daughter's wedding, turning it into a mourning event unless their demands were met.

The perpetrators delivered an extortion letter to the businessman instructing him to write "Yes" on his house's boundary wall as affirmation of his willingness to pay them. The suspects have been identified as Pushpendra Kumar (34) and Deepak (32), both residents of Sangam Vihar in South Delhi.
Background of the Accused
Kumar had previously worked for the victim as a driver but was asked to leave due to unsatisfactory performance. Harbouring resentment against his former employer, Kumar conspired with Deepak, who works as a plumber and lives nearby, to exact revenge.
The Threatening Letter
Deepak handed over the threatening letter on October 26th via the gate-man at the businessman's residence. The letter shocked and frightened its recipient by revealing knowledge of his daughter's impending wedding scheduled for October 28th and demanding Rs. 10 lakh under threat of transforming this joyful occasion into one of sorrow.
Police Intervention
Initially keeping quiet about this alarming situation, the family eventually sought advice from relatives before contacting local law enforcement. A team headed by C R Park’s Station House Officer took up this case immediately.
CCTV Footage Leads To Arrests
The police gathered statements from security personnel and reviewed CCTV footage from around the area which led them directly back to Deepak through identification of a motorcycle used during delivery of the threatening letter. Within hours they had also located and apprehended Kumar at his residence on October 27th.
In conclusion, this case serves as a stark reminder of the lengths to which individuals may go when driven by resentment or greed. The swift action taken by Delhi Police in solving this case is commendable, ensuring that a family's joyous occasion was not marred by fear and uncertainty. It underscores the importance of community vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies for maintaining peace and security.
