Residents in several parts of Delhi are likely to experience low or no water supply on January 9 and 10, 2026, as the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has announced planned disruptions for maintenance work and pipeline interconnections.
Delhi Water Supply Disruption For 2 Days: Hindu Rao Reservoir Maintenance to Affect Key Areas
The first disruption will impact areas supplied by the Hindu Rao Reservoir, where water supply is expected to remain irregular over the two days. DJB has advised residents in these neighborhoods to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the maintenance period.

The disruption is part of the annual reservoir flushing program under the Chandrawal Water Works. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), DJB stated, "The annual flushing programme of reservoirs under the command area of Chandrawal Water Works for the year 2025-26 will be carried out as per the scheduled plan."
Delhi Water Supply Cut Today & Tomorrow: Check List of Affected Areas Including Chandni Chowk, Paharganj, Kashmiri Gate, Lahori Gate & Others
The affected areas drawing water from the Hindu Rao Reservoir include Chandni Chowk, Lahori Gate, Paharganj, Kashmiri Gate, St. Stephen's Hospital, Hindu Rao Hospital, Civil Lines, Naya Bazaar Booster Pumping Station, Naya Bans, Mori Gate, Teerth Ram Hospital, Rajpur Road, Bangla Road and Sarai Phus.
Rajouri Garden, Kriti Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Tilak Nagar & More To See Water Supply Cut
In addition to the reservoir maintenance, DJB has announced a separate disruption due to interconnection work on the newly laid 900 mm diameter Khayala main pipeline. The work will affect water supply in Inderpuri, Todapur Village, Naraina Village-Vihar, Krishi Kunj, Mansarovar Garden, Rajouri Garden, Kirti Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Tilak Nagar, Khayala, Vishnu Garden, JJ Colony Khayala, Ravi Nagar, Chand Nagar, and nearby areas on Friday and Saturday.
According to officials, Delhi currently has around 2.9 million registered water connections, which is significantly lower than the estimated number of actual households in the city. Of these, only about 40% of consumers are reportedly receiving bills under the existing framework.
Delhi Jal Board Advisory to Residents
DJB has urged residents in affected zones to make advance arrangements for essential needs. The utility also emphasised that these maintenance and interconnection works are necessary for improving the efficiency and safety of Delhi's water supply.
