The national capital, Delhi experienced a noticeable improvement in air quality on Tuesday morning, following a light rainfall during the night of November 27. According to data from the Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi stood at 359, categorizing it as 'very poor.' This is a significant improvement compared to the 'severe' category AQI of 400 registered in the National Capital Region (NCR) just a day earlier at 9:30 am.
The positive shift in air quality comes amid favourable weather conditions, with Delhi's average hourly temperature recorded at 19 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department predicts the possibility of additional rainfall throughout the day. The minimum temperature for the day is expected to be 13.4 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may reach 24.2 degrees Celsius.

Various locations across Delhi, which had previously recorded alarming levels of pollution, showed improvements. ITO, which had the worst air quality at an AQI of 435, saw a significant decline. Other areas that had recorded 'severe' air quality, including Vivek Vihar (AQI 410), Wazirpur (AQI 401), and Sonia Vihar (AQI 401), also witnessed positive changes.
Although several locations in the national capital still reported 'very poor' air quality, they showed relative improvement compared to the city's average AQI. Areas like Ashok Vihar (AQI 399), Patparganj (AQI 374), Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium (AQI 372), and Anand Vihar (AQI 371) displayed positive trends. The air quality in Nehru Nagar (AQI 381), Pusa (AQI 369), North Campus (AQI 368), New Moti Bagh (AQI 365), Mandir Marg (AQI 361), Okhla (AQI 360), and Burari Crossing (AQI 360) also showed improvement.
Locations around the National Capital Region demonstrated better air quality levels compared to Delhi. Noida recorded an AQI of 313, Greater Noida at 326, Ghaziabad at 290, Faridabad at 284, and Gurugram at 254.
Despite the improvement, restrictions under stages 1 to 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) continue to be in place. These measures aim to curb pollution and mitigate health risks associated with poor air quality. According to the Regional Weather Forecast, Delhi is likely to witness light rain throughout the day, further contributing to the improvement in air quality.
