Essar Future Energy will establish a bio-fuel complex in Gujarat with a Rs 5,100 crore investment. The project aims to create 350 jobs and support clean fuel solutions by 2029.
Essar Future Energy Limited has revealed plans to build a significant bio-fuel complex in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district. This project involves an investment of Rs 5,100 crore. The announcement was made during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Rajkot. The initiative aims to create approximately 350 direct jobs and is scheduled to begin operations by 2029, according to the company's statement.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Gujarat government. It outlines the establishment of a bio-fuel complex with an initial feedstock processing capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). The project will be developed as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) unit. It aims to decarbonise sectors like aviation, shipping, and road transport by providing clean fuel solutions.
Investment in Clean Energy Ecosystem
This development aligns with the state's vision for a green energy ecosystem, aiming for energy independence by 2047 under the Viksit Gujarat-Viksit Bharat initiative. Gujarat continues to lead India's industrial growth and energy transition efforts. Essar's involvement highlights its commitment to pioneering low-carbon energy solutions in partnership with the state government.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by ministers Rushikesh Patel and Kaushik Vekaria, along with senior officials from the state's Energy & Petrochemicals department. Essar Future Energy Limited CEO Vibhav Agarwal expressed pride in contributing to this transformation. "Essar is proud to be at the forefront of this transformation, partnering with the state government to develop future-ready, low-carbon energy solutions," he stated.
Regional Development and Employment
The bio-fuel complex is expected to boost regional development while enhancing Gujarat's clean fuels and bio-energy ecosystem. The project underscores the state's focus on sustainable growth and energy transition. By targeting hard-to-abate sectors, it aims to provide cleaner alternatives that contribute to environmental sustainability.
Overall, this initiative represents a significant step towards achieving a sustainable energy future for Gujarat and India. It reflects a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and fostering economic growth through innovative energy solutions.
