The FASTag annual pass scheme, recently launched by the central government, has received an overwhelming response from vehicle owners across India. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), nearly 1.4 lakh FASTag users activated the annual pass on the very first day of its launch, August 15.

What is a FASTag Annual Pass?
The FASTag annual pass lets private car, jeep, and van owners pay a one-time fee of Rs. 3,000 for unlimited travel across designated National Highway and Motorway toll plazas. The pass is valid for one year or up to 200 trips, whichever comes earlier.
Key Features of FASTag Annual Pass
The Rs.3,000 FASTag annual pass comes with several benefits for private vehicle owners. Here are the key features to watch:
Eligibility: The annual pass is available only for cars, jeeps, and vans in the private category. It is not applicable for trucks, buses, or other commercial vehicles.
Validity: The pass remains valid for one year from the date of activation or until 200 trips are completed.
Coverage: This facility is accepted only at NHAI-operated toll plazas on National Highways and Motorways. It cannot be used at state highways or private motorways.
Centralised Payment: The fee can be paid easily via the Rajmarg Yatra app or the official NHAI website using UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking. Wallet balances, however, are not accepted.
Quick Activation: The pass is usually activated within 2 to 24 hours after payment, and users receive an SMS confirmation.
Easy Renewal: Once the validity period or 200 trips are exhausted, the pass can be renewed through the same process.
No New FASTag Required
There is no need to purchase a new FASTag if your existing one meets the eligibility criteria. Vehicle owners do not need to buy a fresh tag separately. The annual pass can be linked directly to their existing FASTag, provided it is active and valid, making the process simple and hassle-free.
How to Activate the Rs.3,000 FASTag Annual Pass
Activating the annual pass is simple and can be done online. Follow these step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Start by downloading the official Rajmarg Yatra app from your device's app store, or log on to the NHAI website.
Step 2: Log in with your registered mobile number or vehicle registration number (VRN). Ensure that your FASTag is properly affixed to the windscreen and that it is not blacklisted or inactive.
Step 3: Enter the required details, such as vehicle registration number and FASTag ID. Upload documents like the vehicle's RC, the owner's ID/address proof, and a passport-size photo if prompted.
Step 4: Pay the Rs.3,000 annual pass fee through UPI, debit/credit card, or net banking. Wallet balance payments are not allowed.
Step 5: Once payment is successful, the annual pass will be activated on your FASTag within 2-24 hours. An SMS confirmation will be sent to your registered mobile number, and you can also check the status on the app or website dashboard.
