NHAI has announced that FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC will be deactivated by banks after January 31, 2024. This move aims to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and promote the One Vehicle, One FASTag initiative.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on Monday that FASTags with a valid balance but incomplete Know Your Customer (KYC) details will be deactivated by banks after January 31, 2024. This move is part of NHAI's efforts to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system and ensure seamless movement at toll plazas.

One Vehicle, One FASTag Initiative
To discourage the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle, NHAI has launched the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative. This initiative aims to streamline the FASTag system and prevent misuse.
KYC Completion Encouraged
NHAI is urging FASTag users to complete the KYC process for their latest FASTag by updating their KYC details as per the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This will help ensure the smooth functioning of the FASTag system and avoid any inconvenience to users.
Compliance with One Vehicle, One FASTag
FASTag users are also advised to comply with the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative and discard all previously issued FASTags through their respective banks. Only the latest FASTag account will remain active, while previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted after January 31, 2024.
Assistance and Queries
For any assistance or queries related to FASTags, users can reach out to the nearest toll plaza or contact the toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks.
Addressing Recent Issues
NHAI's decision to deactivate FASTags with incomplete KYC and enforce the "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative comes in response to recent reports of multiple FASTags being issued for a single vehicle and FASTags being issued without proper KYC, which violates RBI's mandate. Additionally, some FASTags are deliberately not fixed on the windscreen of vehicles, causing unnecessary delays at toll plazas and inconveniencing other highway users.
Revolutionizing Electronic Toll Collection
With a penetration rate of approximately 98% and over 8 crore users, FASTag has revolutionized the electronic toll collection system in India. The "One Vehicle, One FASTag" initiative will further enhance the efficiency of toll operations and ensure seamless and comfortable journeys for highway users.
