In a significant move towards expanding its operational footprint, regional airline FLY91 has announced its plans to establish new bases at the upcoming Noida and Navi Mumbai airports. Currently operating from Mopa airport in Goa since its inception in March, FLY91 has rapidly scaled its operations to cover seven destinations with a modest fleet of two planes. The airline's ambitious growth trajectory is set to continue, with plans to expand its fleet to six aircraft by the end of this year, according to Manoj Chacko, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Speaking at the CAPA India Aviation Summit 2024, Chacko revealed the airline's strategic intentions to explore opportunities for establishing multiple bases across the country. This move underscores FLY91's flexible business model and its commitment to enhancing connectivity within India. With an eye on aggressive expansion, the airline aims to establish five bases and connect 50 destinations within the next five years.
The second phase of FLY91's expansion is slated for the next financial year, marking a significant step in the airline's journey. The Goa-based carrier, which operates 70-seater ATR 72-600 aircraft, has successfully raised USD 25 million in funding. This financial milestone is a testament to the confidence of its promoters, including Chacko, a former senior executive at Kingfisher Airlines, and Harsha Raghavan, former head of Fairfax India, among others.
Chacko expressed optimism about the airline's financial outlook, projecting that FLY91 is on track to achieve break-even in the latter half of the next financial year. This projection highlights the airline's robust planning and strategic execution in navigating the competitive aviation sector.
FLY91's decision to target Noida and Navi Mumbai airports as future bases is indicative of its strategic approach to tap into emerging markets and cater to the growing demand for regional connectivity. As these airports are set to commence operations in the near future, FLY91's early mover advantage could significantly bolster its market presence and operational efficiency.
The airline's expansion plans are not just about adding new destinations but also about fostering greater connectivity and convenience for passengers. By diversifying its base locations and increasing its fleet size, FLY91 is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of regional aviation in India. With a clear vision and a flexible business model, FLY91 is set on a course towards rapid growth and operational excellence.
