About Google
Google was established in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page. The search engine processes over 70% of global online searches. The California-headquartered IT firm is one of the most recognised brands worldwide.
Initially focused on search technology, Google now offers over 50 internet services and products. These range from email and document creation to mobile software. The acquisition of Motorola Mobility in 2012 enabled Google to enter the mobile phone market. Despite its diverse offerings, Google's search tool remains central to its success.
Google's Growth Story
Google's growth story started as a research project in a garage in late 1990s. The search engine company gained popularity. In mid-1998, Brin and Page began attracting outside investment. Andy Bechtolsheim, co-founder of Sun Microsystems Inc., was among their first investors. They raised around $1 million from various sources and established Google in Menlo Park, California. The name "Google" originated from a misspelling of "googol," a mathematical term.
By mid-1999, Google secured $25 million in venture capital funding and processed 500,000 queries daily. Its growth surged when Yahoo! adopted it as its client search engine in 2000. By 2004, after Yahoo! ended this partnership, Google handled 200 million daily searches.
