Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, has made hints about additional layoffs at the company. Google chose to lay off 6% of its employees in January of this year, which resulted in 12,000 Googlers losing their jobs. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sundar Pichai made a suggestion that there might be further layoffs. He avoided broaching the matter, though.

He also spoke on Google's efforts in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). In order to enhance productivity, he claimed that Google's chatbot Bard was being included into services like Gmail and Google Docs.
We're very, very focused on the prospects we have, and I think there's still a lot of work to be done, he added. We are prioritising where we can and relocating personnel to our most crucial regions, so that is continuing effort.
Sundar Pichai stated that every area of Google's operations was being examined, and that steps were being taken to permanently re-engineer its cost structure. He stated that Google wants to boost efficiency by 20%. He emphasised the necessity for Google to expand on the advancements it has made recently.
The employment cuts, he said, were decided upon carefully. We've chosen to cut about 12,000 roles from our personnel, he said. While the impacted US employees have already received a replacement email, this procedure will take longer in other countries due to regional laws and customs. Earlier, Google fired roughly 450 workers from its locations in India. Employees from a number of departments were let go in February.
Tech companies around the world have started laying off employees to "rationalize" their operations and increase efficiency in the face of economic uncertainty. Large technology companies like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft have all made significant employee cuts in order to achieve this.
In two waves, Amazon has announced 27,000 layoffs. Facebook's parent company Meta announced in November 2022 that it will be firing 11,000 workers. A further 10,000 layoffs were announced in March of this year as a result.
