As India prepares for the fourth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections of 2024, today's Google Doodle is sporting an iconic inked index finger. Citizens across the nation are casting their votes.
A total of 96 Parliamentary Constituencies spread across 9 States and one Union Territory are participating in today's electoral process. Joining them are all 175 seats of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly and 28 seats of Odisha. A count of 1,717 candidates is eying victory during this phase.

The Google Doodle is visible exclusively to users in India. It follows the trend set in the earlier phases held on April 19, April 26, and May 7, where the inked finger icon became a symbol of civic duty and democratic participation.
Among the key candidates contesting in this phase are prominent leaders such as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, West Bengal Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, TMC leader Mahua Moitra, BJP leader Giriraj Singh, and many others, each eyeing electoral success.
Notable Lok Sabha constituencies up for polling today include Baharampur, Hyderabad, Krishnanagar, Begusarai, Munger, Srinagar, Asansol, Kannauj, Kadapa, and Khunti, among others, where voters will decide the fate of their representatives.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens to exercise their franchise, emphasizing the importance of strengthening democracy. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he stated, "In today's 4th Phase of the Lok Sabha elections, 96 seats across 10 States and UTs are going to the polls. I am sure people in these constituencies will vote in large numbers and the young voters as well as women voters will power this surge in voting. Come, let's all do our duty and strengthen our democracy!"
Google's homepage is known for its delightful surprises, often in the form of vibrant Doodles celebrating talented individuals, cultural landmarks, and significant events. For K-12 students, the Doodle for Google contest presents a unique opportunity to showcase their creativity by having their artwork featured on Google.com, along with the chance to win exciting prizes.
The inception of Google Doodles dates back to 1998 when Google's founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, crafted the first one to mark the Burning Man festival. Since then, these imaginative illustrations have evolved into a prominent platform for commemorating a diverse array of global events, holidays, and notable personalities.
Initially, the design of Google Doodles was entrusted to an outside contractor, cartoonist Ian David Marsden. However, in 2000, Page and Brin shifted gears, tasking public relations officer Dennis Hwang with creating a logo for Bastille Day. This pivotal moment marked the transition to an in-house team of employees known as Doodlers, who have since taken the reins in curating and publishing these captivating artworks.
The top ten Google Doodle to date are Pac-Man, Garden Gnomes, Basketball, Baseball, Eiji Tsuburaya's Birthday, Pony Express, Halloween, Birth of Hip Hop, Valentine's Day and Doctor Who.
As the polling stations open their doors and voters queue up to cast their ballots, the nation witnesses yet another vibrant display of democratic fervour. With each vote, citizens are shaping the government and reaffirming the foundations of democracy.
