Google has taken strict action against over 3,500 loan apps in India for violating Play Store policy requirements in 2022. The tech giant announced this on Thursday, highlighting its continued efforts to protect its users from potentially harmful apps.
According to Google, it prevented the publication of 1.43 million policy-violating apps on Google Play, banned 173,000 malicious accounts, and stopped over USD 2 billion in fraudulent and abusive transactions in 2022.
"In India, in 2022, we have reviewed and taken necessary enforcement action, including removal of apps, on more than 3,500 personal loan apps for violations of the Play policy requirements. We continue to uplevel our efforts in this area by regularly updating our policies and review processes," Google said.

In 2023, the company declared its intention to embrace a privacy-centric strategy for advertising.
As a step in that direction, Google plans to release the initial beta version of the Privacy Sandbox on Android, which will be made available to a limited number of Android devices.
"With the Beta, users and developers will be able to experience and evaluate these new solutions in the real world...We'll continue to work in collaboration with developers, publishers, regulators and more as we navigate the transition to a more private mobile ecosystem," Google said in a blog.
Google's objective with the privacy sandbox is to develop technologies that safeguard users' online privacy and equip businesses and developers with the necessary tools to establish digital enterprises. The Privacy Sandbox achieves this by curbing cross-site and cross-app tracking while simultaneously ensuring that online content and services remain accessible to all.
