Google has officially revealed the schedule for its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2026, coinciding with CEO Sundar Pichai's visit to India for the AI Impact Summit 2026. On the same day, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis delivered a keynote address during Day 3 of the summit, underscoring the company's strong focus on artificial intelligence.
Google I/O 2026 Updates; Check Date, Time, Venue; When and Where Will Google I/O 2026 Take Place?
Google I/O is an annual developer conference, which will be held from May 19 to May 20 this year at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. As in previous years, the event will be streamed live worldwide, allowing developers and technology enthusiasts across the globe to tune in to the keynote sessions and product announcements.

The company has indicated that this year's conference will spotlight advancements in artificial intelligence, Android, and other core Google platforms. Hardware announcements are not expected, as the event is likely to concentrate primarily on software innovations and ecosystem updates.
Google Teases I/O 2026 With Gemini-Powered 'Save-the-Date' Experience; Keynotes, Demos and Developer Sessions Planned
Google confirmed in a blog post that the conference will feature keynote speeches from company leaders, interactive sessions, product demonstrations and developer-focused discussions. Ahead of the event, Google has also launched a "save-the-date" digital experience built with Gemini, encouraging users to explore creative AI-powered interactions.
Sundar Pichai shared the dates on X (formerly Twitter), inviting global audiences to join the event starting May 19. Shortly after arriving in India, Pichai also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit.
Strong AI Focus Expected at I/O 2026
Artificial intelligence is expected to dominate the agenda at Google I/O 2026, reflecting intense global competition in the AI space. Although Google recently introduced its Gemini 3 Pro and Gemini Flash models, further announcements related to the Gemini ecosystem are anticipated. Industry watchers expect updates that may include a next-generation AI video generation model.
At last year's I/O event, Google unveiled its Veo 3 video generation model, which supported synchronised audio creation and quickly gained traction online. Building on that momentum, the company is likely to showcase new creative AI tools and expanded capabilities across its platforms.
In addition to Gemini-related developments, Google had previously introduced Deep Think mode, the Image 4 image model, new Gemma 3 open-source models and several AI enhancements integrated into Google Search. More updates in these areas are widely anticipated.
Android 17 and Chrome Updates in Focus
Google has already released the first beta version of Android 17, but I/O 2026 is expected to serve as the stage for a comprehensive showcase of its most significant features. These may include new Handoff functionality, an enhanced Desktop Mode, a "Liquid Glass"-style visual redesign and deeper Gemini-powered integrations across the operating system.
The company is also likely to announce substantial AI upgrades for the Google Chrome browser. With the emergence of agentic AI-powered browsers such as ChatGPT Atlas and Perplexity Comet, competition in the browsing space has intensified.
