For the July to September quarter of the financial year 2021-2022, the Government of India has set a 7.1 percent interest rate on General Provident Fund (GPF) and other similar retirement funds. The interest rate stated on these provident funds is the same as the 7.1 percent guaranteed by the public provident fund (PPF). The government had previously announced the same interest rate for the quarter of April to June 2021, which is now kept unchanged for the sixth consecutive quarter. The following provident fund schemes will be subject to the interest rate:

- The General Provident Fund (Central Services)
- The Contributory Provident Fund
- The All India Services Provident Fund
- The State Railway Provident Fund
- The General Provident Fund (Defence Services)
- The Indian Ordnance Department Provident Fund
- The India Ordnance Factories Workmen's Provident Fund
- The Indian Naval Dockyard Workmen's Provident Fund
- The Defence Services Officers Provident Fund
- The Armed Forces Personnel Provident Fund
Meanwhile, the government has also kept the interest rates unchanged for small savings schemes. According to the recent official memorandum issued by the Finance Ministry of India "The rate of interest on various small savings schemes for the second quarter of financial year 2021-22 starting from 1st July 2021 and ending on 30th September 2021 shall remain unchanged from the current rates applicable for the first quarter (1st April 2021 to 30th June 2021) for FY 2021-22".
