If you've ever dreamed of riding a flying taxi across Bengaluru, that vision could soon become a reality. The Invest Karnataka 2025 event showcased a new-age innovation set to transform urban mobility in India. Bengaluru-based startup Sarla Aviation has unveiled Shunya, India's first electric flying taxi prototype. This advanced eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft is designed to provide eco-friendly and affordable urban air transportation with services across the city, which is expected to be the future of smart city travel in India.
The prototype was first introduced at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo this year, where it garnered huge attention, and now at Invest Karnataka 2025, the Shunya prototype is making heads turn once again.
GoodReturns (One India) had an exclusive interview with Amar Naik from Sarla Aviation; he explained the vision behind Shunya. According to Naik, Shunya is designed to be affordable, eco-friendly, and easy to use for mass-market adoption. "This particular model falls under the eVTOL category, which means it can take off and land on any flat surface. The propellers on either side rotate to allow the vehicle to fly like a plane," he said.

"This makes Shunya not only a technological marvel but also a practical solution for busy commuters who want faster travel options. So yeah, it is kind of an adventurous thing that you see the movies, and soon it will be a reality. We are also starting with the airport Trans group, which is accessible to one and all." He added.
What is Shunya All About?
Shunya is a new-age economical flying taxi developed by Sarla Aviation, which holds the potential to revamp urban mobility. Shunya can travel at a speed of 250 km/h and has a range of 160 km, making it perfect for short commutes in Bengaluru. The vehicle's electric propulsion system makes it highly environmentally sustainable, as it can reduce carbon emissions and can help in promoting a cleaner future in transportation.
The eVTOL aircraft is designed to take off and land vertically, making it possible to land on any flat surface without the need for traditional runways. Shunya can accommodate 6 passengers and offers a variety of configurations, including cargo and ambulance versions, as per data on the Sarala Aviation website. Its modular design, sustainable materials, and low operating costs make it a future-proof solution for affordable, fast, and eco-friendly travel in congested cities.
