The Govt of India recently rolled out GST 2.0, a reformed tax structure that simplifies rates and makes essential goods and services cheaper. While these changes are meant to benefit consumers directly, not every seller may immediately pass on the reduced tax burden. This is why it's important to know where and how to complain about GST issues if you feel overcharged.

What's New Under GST 2.0?
The Goods and Services Tax underwent a major reform earlier this month. Under this new structure, many items have moved to lower tax slabs, making them more affordable for the average consumer. Essentials like milk, roti, paneer, medicines, and insurance policies have shifted into the 0-5% GST bracket.
The government has also reduced GST on automobiles and two-wheelers. For instance, bikes under 350 cc, small cars, and electric vehicles now attract 18% GST instead of 28%. On the other hand, luxury and sin goods will attract higher rates, going up to 40% GST.
Where and How to Complain About GST Issues
If you feel a shop, service provider, or business is not passing on the benefits of the new GST rates, you can raise a complaint easily.
The first option is the GST Self Service Portal, where taxpayers and consumers can lodge grievances. You can enter your complaint, attach bills or invoices as proof, and track the status online.
Another option is the National Consumer Helpline, which addresses consumer-related grievances, including overcharging under GST.
Key Helpline Numbers for GST Complaints
To make things easier, the government has set up multiple toll-free helplines depending on the issue:
GST Network (GSTN) Help Desk: For GST portal-related problems dial 1800-103-4786.
CBIC Mitra Help Desk: For CBIC and GST tax-related issues, dial 1800-425-0232.
Saksham Seva: For mapping, network, and hardware issues, dial 1800-266-2232 / 1800-121-4560.
ICEGATE Help Desk: For GST matters linked to import/export services, dial 1800-3010-1000.
Complaints on Anti-Profiteering
One major concern after every GST rate cut is that some businesses may not reduce their prices. This is where the Anti-Profiteering Authority comes into play.
If you find that a seller or service provider is charging you the old rate even after the tax has been reduced, you can file a complaint with the authority. They have the power to investigate and penalise businesses for non-compliance.
The GST 2.0 reforms were introduced to help people save money on essentials and encourage higher consumption. But if sellers do not pass on the benefits, consumers end up paying more than they should, and then it becomes very important to raise complaints. This will create pressure on businesses to maintain transparency and ensure that the benefits of GST rate cuts reach the common man.
