Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath outlines a GST reforms awareness campaign in Uttar Pradesh from September 22-29, aiming to educate citizens and promote local products. The initiative involves public representatives engaging with local markets to ensure effective implementation of the new GST framework.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently conducted a virtual meeting with NDA MLAs and state ministers in Uttar Pradesh. The focus was on the upcoming GST reforms awareness campaign, scheduled from 22 to 29 September. This initiative aims to educate people about the benefits of GST reforms and promote local products.

The GST framework in India is undergoing significant changes. Starting 22 September, most goods and services will be taxed at either 5% or 18%. Luxury and sin goods will face higher rates. The campaign's goal is to ensure that traders, shopkeepers, and citizens fully benefit from these reforms during the festive season.
Public Engagement and Local Coordination
Adityanath instructed public representatives to lead the campaign in their areas. He, along with two deputy chief ministers, will actively participate. MPs, ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and councillors are expected to spend 1-2 hours daily in local markets, engaging directly with shopkeepers and the public.
In each district, ministers in charge will coordinate with local representatives to ensure the campaign's success at the grassroots level. Public representatives will visit markets daily, offering roses to shopkeepers as a gesture of thanks and informing them about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's implementation of GST reforms.
Promoting Indigenous Products
Shopkeepers will be encouraged to display posters with the message "Garv Se Kaho Swadeshi Hai" and prioritise selling indigenous products. This move aims to strengthen the local economy. Adityanath emphasised that Swadeshi represents India's labour, skill, and perseverance.
He highlighted that adopting indigenous products is crucial for achieving a self-reliant and developed India. Shopkeepers and customers are urged to take pride in using Swadeshi products, thereby boosting economic progress.
Benefits of GST Reforms
During festive shopping, customers will learn how GST reforms have made goods more affordable. Public representatives will explain how using indigenous products contributes to building a self-reliant nation. The campaign aims to ensure awareness reaches all levels, benefiting both traders and customers.
The chief minister instructed ministers in charge to visit their districts and engage with local bodies, business associations, farmers, and the general public. They are tasked with communicating the benefits of the reforms effectively.
Implementation Strategy
The chief minister called for simultaneous implementation of the reforms across the state with active involvement from local representatives. Highlighting broader impacts, he noted that GST reforms would make goods cheaper, boost purchasing power, attract investments, and create new jobs.
These benefits must be effectively communicated during the festive season. Adityanath directed all public representatives to share their seven-day action plans with him for immediate execution.
