Haryana Chief Minister Advances Urban Development in Key Cities

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini chaired meetings for the metropolitan development authorities of Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Panchkula on Wednesday. Various projects were approved during these sessions. The 13th meeting of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) saw a budget of Rs 2,887.32 crore approved for the financial year 2024-25.

Urban Projects Boost in Haryana

The GMDA meeting discussed several agendas, including increasing CCTV cameras for city surveillance and adaptive traffic management. The implementation of CCTV project phase-3 for Gurugram city surveillance was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 422 crore. This will see the number of high-quality CCTV cameras increase from around 4,000 to about 14,000.

Infrastructure Developments in Gurugram

A flyover at the junction of Sector 45-46-51-52 was approved with an allocation of Rs 52 crore to ease traffic congestion. Another flyover will be constructed at the intersection of Sector 85-86-89-90 to further alleviate traffic issues. Additionally, the upgradation of Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) was approved, which includes constructing an elevated corridor and interchange from Vatika Chowk to NH-48 CPR at an estimated cost of Rs 620 crore.

The GMDA also approved the upgradation of Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurugram at an estimated cost of Rs 634.30 crore to provide modern sports infrastructure. Moreover, the procurement of 200 electric buses was sanctioned to offer safe, reliable, clean, and affordable city bus services to Gurugram residents.

Water Management and Drainage Projects

For laying the Master Storm Water Drainage System in Sector 76-80 along National Highway-48, Rs 215 crore was approved by the GMDA. Other topics discussed included drainage improvement plans, door-to-door garbage collection, construction of a civil hospital, and a new bus stand.

Expressing concern over water-logging during monsoons in Gurugram, Saini urged officers to address this issue promptly using all available resources. He stated he would personally visit Gurugram to oversee the situation and ensure no negligence occurs. The state chief secretary was directed to hold concerned officers accountable for their responsibilities.

Faridabad Development Projects

During the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA) meeting, a project worth approximately Rs 2,600 crore was approved to provide drinking water and address drainage problems in Faridabad. A project worth Rs 1,289 crore was also approved for replacing old sewage systems for rainwater drainage. This project includes rehabilitating or replacing main sewers, intersecting stormwater drains, and repairing damaged pipes.

To ensure uninterrupted water supply and improve groundwater levels, a project related to developing water bodies along the Yamuna river was approved at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore. Additionally, two projects were approved to connect East Faridabad with West Faridabad at a total cost of around Rs 1,530 crore.

Connecting East and West Faridabad

The East Faridabad to West Faridabad Badhkal route project proposes constructing five flyovers, five U-turns, and a connecting flyover at Ankhir Chowk from Surajkund side. Approach roads, service roads, and drainage facilities will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 848 crore. Similarly, around Rs 682 crore will be spent on the East Faridabad to West Faridabad Bata route project. This includes constructing four flyovers, three U-turns, an underpass, and a connecting flyover towards Mullah Hotel at Masjid Chowk.

The chief minister also chaired meetings for the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority and Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority. Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh and other GMDA members attended the meeting via videoconferencing.

The meetings highlighted significant infrastructure developments aimed at improving urban living conditions across Haryana's metropolitan areas.
