Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced on Tuesday that commission agents, known as arthiyas, will receive a 20 per cent increase in their commission for paddy crops. The new commission rate will be Rs 55 per quintal, up from Rs 45.88, making it the highest in any state. Saini also declared that the government would compensate arthiyas for losses due to wheat shortages, with an estimated compensation of Rs 12 crore.

Compensation for Wheat Shortages
The chief minister made these announcements during a meeting with representatives from the Haryana State Grain Market Arthiya Association and the Haryana Rice Millers and Dealers Association. During this meeting, arthiyas highlighted the issue of wheat shortages, noting that no government has compensated for these shortages since 1966. The average shortage is around 0.20 per cent annually, but last season it was 0.28 per cent.
Saini assured that the state government would cover the increased shortage of 0.08 per cent. He stated, "The government will compensate for the increased shortage of 0.08 per cent." This move aims to address the concerns raised by arthiyas regarding their losses.
Extension of Rice Delivery Deadline
The chief minister also addressed issues faced by rice millers due to storage shortages. He announced that the deadline for delivering rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for the 2023-24 season has been extended from June 30 to August 31. Saini mentioned that a request has been made to the central government to approve this extension soon.
During the meeting, Saini emphasised that these measures are part of the government's efforts to support arthiyas and millers in Haryana. The increased commission and compensation aim to alleviate financial pressures on these stakeholders.
The announcements were well-received by the representatives present at the meeting. They expressed their appreciation for the government's proactive approach in addressing their concerns and providing timely solutions.
These steps are expected to benefit a large number of commission agents and millers across Haryana, ensuring better financial stability and support for their operations.
The chief minister's announcements reflect a commitment to addressing long-standing issues faced by arthiyas and millers in the state. By increasing commissions and compensating for wheat shortages, the government aims to provide much-needed relief and support to these essential stakeholders in Haryana's agricultural sector.
Overall, these measures are seen as positive steps towards strengthening the agricultural economy in Haryana and ensuring fair compensation for those involved in grain trading and milling activities.
