In a significant development for Himachal Pradesh, the state government has announced its partnership in the establishment of a bulk drug park, a project valued at Rs 1,923 crore. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu confirmed the state's involvement and financial support beyond the central government's assistance to ensure the project's swift completion. This initiative is set to unfold in the Haroli assembly segment of Una district, covering an extensive area of 570 hectares.

The announcement came after a detailed review meeting on Thursday, where Chief Minister Sukhu discussed the project's progress with senior officials. A notable decision from this meeting was the state's commitment to bear the operational costs for the first decade of the project. This strategic move underscores the government's dedication to bolstering the pharmaceutical sector within the region.
The envisioned bulk drug park promises to be a comprehensive hub for drug manufacturing, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Among these are a common effluent treatment plant capable of handling 5 MLD, a solid waste management plant, and an extensive stormwater drain network. Additionally, the park will house a common solvent storage, recovery and distillation facility, steam generation plant, an advanced laboratory testing centre, an emergency response centre, hazardous operations audit centre, and a centre of excellence.
Beyond these core facilities, the project will also see the development of essential infrastructure such as pathways, a canteen, fire station, and an administrative block to support the overall site development. The Chief Minister has directed the industries department to fast-track the tender process, address any potential hurdles promptly, and complete all necessary formalities within a set timeline.
This ambitious project is not just about enhancing Himachal Pradesh's industrial landscape; it is also expected to be a significant revenue generator for the state. Moreover, it aims to create numerous job opportunities for local youth, aligning with broader economic development goals. Chief Minister Sukhu's proactive approach towards addressing any challenges head-on and ensuring timely progress reflects the government's commitment to this transformative initiative.
As Himachal Pradesh gears up for this major leap in pharmaceutical manufacturing, the bulk drug park project represents a pivotal moment for the state's industrial and economic future. With comprehensive planning and robust support from both state and central governments, this initiative is poised to set new benchmarks in India's drug manufacturing sector.
