India experienced a substantial 15% increase in weekly cyber attacks in 2023, ranking second in the Asia Pacific region. Organizations faced an average of 2,138 attacks per week, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.
India witnessed a significant increase in cyber attacks in 2023, with an average of 2,138 weekly attacks per organization, marking a 15% surge compared to the previous year. This concerning trend places India as the second most targeted nation in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, trailing only behind Taiwan, which recorded 3,050 weekly attacks per organization.

APAC Leads in Cyber Attacks
The APAC region emerged as the global leader in cyber attacks, with an average of 1,930 attacks per organization each week. This represents a 3% increase compared to 2022. Notably, Africa experienced a substantial 12% year-over-year increase in the average number of weekly attacks per organization, reaching an average of 1,900 attacks.
Education and Research Sector Sees Decline
In a surprising turn of events, the education and research sector, which was previously a prime target for cyber attacks, experienced a notable 12% decrease in attacks in 2023. Despite this decline, the sector still holds the dubious distinction of facing the highest volume of cyber attacks overall.
Retail and Healthcare Sectors Under Attack
The retail and wholesale sectors faced a significant 22% increase in cyber attacks, indicating a shift in the focus of attackers. Additionally, the healthcare sector witnessed a concerning 3% increase in attacks, raising concerns due to the critical nature of its services.
The escalating number of cyber attacks in India and across the globe underscores the urgent need for organizations to prioritize cybersecurity measures. By implementing robust security protocols, businesses and institutions can mitigate the risks associated with cyber threats and protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.
