Indias domestic air traffic has touched a new peak for the third straight day, with airlines carrying 4,59,526 passengers on Monday. The count of domestic air passengers was at 3,94,07 and the number of flight movements was 5,468 on November 20, 2022.
India's domestic air traffic has been on a record-breaking spree, with the number of passengers carried by airlines touching a new peak for the third consecutive day on Monday (November 21). According to the civil aviation ministry, 4,59,526 passengers were carried on Monday, the highest single-day figure since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country.
New Record Set

The previous record was set on Sunday (November 20), when 4,56,910 passengers were carried. The ministry said in a post on Twitter that the positive attitude, progressive policies, and deep trust among passengers are taking the civil aviation sector to new heights with every flight, every day.
Impressive Growth
India's domestic aviation sector has been on a strong growth trajectory since the pandemic. In October, domestic air passenger traffic registered an annual growth of nearly 11 per cent to 1.26 crore. The number of flight movements also increased from 5,468 on November 20, 2022, to 5,958 on November 20, 2023.
Global Recognition
India is one of the fastest-growing civil aviation markets in the world. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has projected that India will become the world's third-largest aviation market by 2030. The country's aviation sector is expected to contribute $300 billion to the GDP and create 10 million jobs by 2030.
Government Initiatives
The government has taken several initiatives to boost the civil aviation sector, including the UDAN scheme, which aims to connect underserved and unserved airports in the country. The government has also relaxed foreign direct investment (FDI) norms for the sector and is working to improve airport infrastructure.
The record-breaking domestic air traffic numbers are a testament to the resilience and recovery of the civil aviation sector in India. With the government's continued support and the increasing demand for air travel, the sector is poised for further growth in the coming years.
