India and Ghana have upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive partnership. This development followed extensive discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President John Dramani Mahama. The two leaders aim to double bilateral trade within five years. Modi emphasised India's role as a co-traveller in Ghana's development journey, highlighting the importance of their collaboration.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties
The meeting between Modi and Mahama occurred shortly after Modi's arrival in Ghana, marking the start of his five-nation tour. During this visit, both countries signed four agreements to enhance cooperation in various fields, including culture and traditional medicine. "President Mahama and I have decided to give our bilateral relationship the status of a comprehensive partnership," stated PM Modi, with Mahama present.
Focus on Security and Defence
Both leaders agreed on the need to combat terrorism, which they described as humanity's enemy. Modi expressed gratitude for Ghana's support in India's anti-terrorism efforts. He noted that India-Ghana cooperation would advance in areas like armed forces training, maritime security, defence supply, and cyber security. "In the field of defence and security, we will move forward with the mantra of security through solidarity," he added.
Addressing Global Conflicts
Modi and Mahama also discussed global conflicts, particularly in West Asia and Europe. They stressed the importance of resolving these issues through dialogue and diplomacy. "This is not the era of war; problems should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy," Modi remarked. Both sides expressed serious concerns over these conflicts, advocating for peaceful solutions.
The discussions between India and Ghana mark a significant step forward in their bilateral relations. By focusing on trade, security, and global issues, both nations are poised to strengthen their partnership further.
