Indian expatriates in Dubai and the Northern Emirates can now apply to get passports issued on the same day under certain conditions.
Vipul, the Consulate General of India in Dubai, on Thursday announced that the Indian Consulate in Dubai will be issuing tatkal passports (which are issued in emergencies) on the same day of application, for a higher fee.

The announcement was made during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Non-Resident Indian Day) celebrations at the consulate.
He further said that the same day issue service for tatkal passport can only be availed if the application has been submitted before noon at the office of BLS International in Al Khaleej Centre in Bur Dubai.
BLS International is the outsourced service provider for Indian passport and visa applications in Dubai.
Vipul said that while tatkal passports were issued in 24 hours, the Consulate wanted to take the service a step further by issuing passports by evening when applied within 12 pm.
The new service will be effective from 12 January at BLS International's main centre in Al Khaleej Centre. Tatkal passports will be issued by 6:30 pm for a fee of Dh 855 for 36 pages and Dh 950 for 60 pages.
Cost of regular passport issuance is Dh 285 for 36 pages and Dh 380 for 60 pages. Vipul said that regular passports are being issued within two to three days after the integration of the interface of the mission with that of the passport authority in India.
