Trains are the most popular mode of travel in India, with lakhs of passengers commuting daily. Recognizing the need for a more seamless and efficient travel experience, Indian Railways is leveraging advanced digital technology to enhance passenger convenience. As part of this initiative, Indian Railways is preparing to launch a super app called 'SwaRail', which will serve as a one-stop platform for all railway-related services, eliminating the need for multiple apps.
What is the 'SwaRail' Super App?
The upcoming 'SwaRail' Super App will integrate various railway services, offering a single platform for booking tickets, tracking trains, ordering food, checking live train status, and managing ticket cancellations or rescheduling. The app will also provide updates on train delays, route changes, and cancellations in real time, ensuring a smoother travel experience for passengers.

Key Features of the 'SwaRail' Super App
The Indian Railways' Super App aims to streamline travel by integrating several existing railway applications, including
- IRCTC Rail Connect - For ticket bookings and reservations
- Rail Madad - For complaint redressal and onboard assistance
- National Train Enquiry System (NTES) - For real-time train tracking and status updates
- UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) - For unreserved ticket purchases
- Food on Track - For ordering food from designated stations
By bringing all these services under one app, passengers can avoid downloading multiple applications, saving time and device storage.
Developed In Collaboration With CRIS And IRCTC
The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), in collaboration with IRCTC, is spearheading the development of this super app. According to senior railway officials, the app will offer features such as
Ticket booking (both reserved and unreserved)
Live train status updates
Onboard cleaning requests
Complaint redressal system
Travel insurance options
Food ordering facilities from partner vendors
The 'SwaRail' Super App will be available for both Android and iOS users and is expected to be launched soon.
What To Do Until The Super App Launches?
While waiting for the official launch of the SwaRail app, passengers can still manage challenges like train delays, route diversions, or cancellations with the help of the NTES (National Train Enquiry System) app.
How To Use The NTES App?
The NTES app provides passengers with real-time train information, including status updates, cancellations, and temporary halts. It is available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, with a web version accessible online.
Key Features Of The NTES App
Spot Your Train - Get real-time updates on train locations and schedules.
Live Station Updates - Check train arrival and departure timings for nearby stations.
Train Schedule - View detailed train routes and timing information.
Train Exception Info - Receive alerts on delays, route diversions, and cancellations.
Trains Between Stations - Search for available trains between two specific stations.
With the launch of SwaRail, Indian Railways is taking a significant step towards digital transformation, expecting to revolutionize train travel in the country by making it more convenient, efficient, and accessible for millions of travellers.
