Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal reassured businesses that India's interests will be prioritised in trade agreements. "India First is our mantra, is our guiding principle," he stated at an event. Although he did not disclose specifics about ongoing trade discussions with the US, Goyal mentioned that talks with various countries are progressing smoothly and positively.

Goyal emphasised that a wide range of topics and products are being discussed in these negotiations. He assured business leaders that India's best interests remain central to these discussions. The bilateral trade agreement with the US is expected to boost India's economy, aiming for developed nation status by 2047, coinciding with 100 years of independence.
India's Educational Expansion in UAE
At the Dubai India Business Forum, Goyal announced plans to establish an Indian Institute of Management and an Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in the UAE. This decision follows the establishment of an IIT and highlights India's strengthening ties with the region. Goyal expressed a desire for Dubai to act as a gateway for India's engagement with the Middle East, noting that 2 million Indians reside there.
Several announcements were made by Dubai-based entities during the event. Construction of Bharat Mart at Al Jabeli has begun and is expected to be completed by the end of next year. Additionally, the Bharat-Africa Setu project has been launched to facilitate Indian exporters' access to 53 African cities served by DP World.
Collaborations and Political Commentary
DP World has partnered with state-owned RITES for global project development and Cochin Shipyard for shipbuilding and repair along India's coast. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Dubai's crown prince, attended the event. Goyal also addressed recent controversies surrounding his comments on Indian startups, attributing misunderstandings to political distortion by the Congress party.
The minister criticised Rahul Gandhi's leadership of Congress, describing him as a non-serious politician. Goyal also mentioned amendments to the Waqf Act aimed at ensuring fair management for charitable and religious purposes within the Muslim community.
These developments underscore India's strategic focus on enhancing trade relations and educational ties while addressing domestic political dynamics. The initiatives reflect a broader vision for economic growth and international collaboration.
