In a major good news to Indian airlines, the 32 airports that were shut due to geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan, are re-open for depart and arrival. The Civil Aviation ministry has lifted the ban, a move that comes after ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. Largest airline of India in terms of market share, Indigo has also issued new advisory along the similar lines.
32 Airports Shut Down In India:
According to the new update, the Ministry of Civil Aviation on May 12 said, "Temporary closure of 32 Airports for civil Aircraft operations till 05:29 hrs of 15 May 2025 has been lifted. These Airports are now available for civil Aircraft operations with immediate effect."

It added, "Travellers are advised to check flight status directly with the Airlines and monitor Airline's websites for regular updates."
Also, reports have said that Pakistan has also opened its airspace as part of the ceasefire.
Earlier on May 10, the Aviation ministry had suspended both domestic and international flights and overall operations to some 32 airports from 9th to 14th May 2025 (which corresponds to 0529 IST on 15th May 2025), due to operational reasons.
These airports were situated in --- Adhampur, Ambala, Amritsar, Awantipur, Bathinda, Bhuj, Bikaner, Halwara, Chandigarh, Hindon Jaisalmer, Jammu, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Kandla, Kangra (Gaggal), Keshod, Kishangarh, Kullu Manali (Bhuntar), Leh, Ludhiana, Mundra, Naliya, Pathankot, Patiala, Porbandar, Rajkot (Hirasar), Sarsawa, Shimla, Srinagar, Uttarlai, and Thoise.
Last week, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) also extended the temporary closure of 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions (FIRs) due to operational reasons.
Indigo Travel Advisory:
On Monday, Indigo also informed its passengers that in line with the latest government directives, the airports are open for operations. It said, "We will progressively commence operations on the previously closed routes."
"As services gradually return to normal, there may still be a few delays and last-minute adjustments," the airline said, "We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as our teams work diligently to restore seamless operations."
Indigo recommends its passengers check their flight status regularly for any latest updates. It said, "As always, we will continue to keep you informed through our official channels."
Furthermore, Indigo stated that if passengers are re-considering their travel plans, then they are offering change and cancellation fee waivers till May 22, 2025. This benefit is offered for traveling to and from the affected airports.
Airline Stocks:
There are two airline stocks listed on BSE and NSE. On Monday, Interglobe Aviation's (Indigo) share price skyrocketed by at least 10% to hit an intraday high of Rs 5599 apiece on BSE. Indigo's market cap is around Rs 2,13,154.16 crore.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet share price zoomed by 10.4% at least to hit an intraday high of Rs 47.69 apiece. It has a market cap of Rs 6,006.12 crore.
Largest Airlines By Market Share In India:
Data till March 2025 showed that Indigo continues to hold dominance in the Indian aviation industry, with a domestic market share of 64%. Air India (including Air India Express) follows with a market share of 26.7%, while Akasa Air has a market share of 5% and lastly SpiceJet with market share of 3.3%.
