IT major Infosys has emerged as the primary partner for end-to-end application services for energy company BP, securing a lucrative deal. The agreement, reportedly valued at $1.5 billion, marks a significant milestone for Infosys, particularly in an industry where mega deals have become scarce amidst numerous challenges and headwinds.
During a challenging period for the IT industry, characterized by a scarcity of significant deals, this agreement emerges as a pivotal moment. Infosys, having previously struck a noteworthy deal with Daimler towards the end of 2020, now secures its largest agreement to date.

In its capacity as BP's principal partner, Infosys will assume responsibility for a wide spectrum of services, encompassing application development, modernization, management, and maintenance. This strategic partnership seeks to enhance business resilience by revitalizing BP's application infrastructure, optimizing operational efficiencies, and fostering innovation through adaptable and agile processes.
Salil Parekh, the chief executive officer of Infosys, called the agreement a "strategic milestone" in the company's ongoing partnership with BP.
"As we see global momentum in energy transition, building a strong digital core and scaling it to maximise operational efficiency is a key business imperative. We are now jointly working towards enhancing digital maturity, productivity, and driving innovation for BP," Parekh said.
He also mentioned the application of cutting-edge digital and artificial intelligence technology.
Leigh-Ann Russell, BP's EVP of Innovation & Engineering, expressed excitement regarding the strengthened collaboration with Infosys.
"We are delighted to further develop our relationship with Infosys to help accelerate our digital transformation and scale growth through tech-enabled operations. Together, we look forward to delivering innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers and drive growth for the future," she said.
