The highly anticipated release of Vijay's Jana Nayagan in India has hit an unexpected roadblock, just days before its scheduled launch on January 9. The delay is due to a pending censor certificate and ongoing legal proceedings, leaving fans and distributors in uncertainty over the film's domestic and international release plans.
Jana Nayagan Release Date Postponed: Check When Vijay's Film Will Release?
The producers had submitted Jana Nayagan to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) over a month ago. Reports indicate that on December 19, the board suggested certain cuts and muted dialogues. With certification still pending, the India release has been postponed indefinitely. Distributors across various territories are now waiting for further instructions before proceeding with screening plans.

Why Jana Nayagan is not Releasing on 9 January 2026
The matter has reached the Madras High Court after the film failed to secure its censor certificate. On Wednesday, the court reserved its order regarding the film's release and asked the CBFC to constitute a new committee to watch Jana Nayagan again and take a fresh decision.
Since CBFC approval for the Tamil original is required before the dubbed Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions can be cleared, the stalled certification has frozen the film's multilingual release plan. This delay has impacted not only domestic audiences but also global distribution partners who were scheduled to launch the film simultaneously in overseas markets.
Vijay's Jana Nayagan Release Worldwide
Ahimsa Entertainment, which handles Jana Nayagan's UK distribution, confirmed that the film will no longer release there as initially planned. Similarly, distributors in North America, Canada, and Malaysia have postponed their schedules, stating that their local launches are contingent upon India's clearance.
Jana Nayagan Movie Tickets Cancellations and Refunds
The impact of the delay is already being felt at single-screen cinemas in India. Victory Cinema in Karnataka announced that all Friday screenings of Jana Nayagan scheduled for January 9 have been canceled. The theatre has assured online ticket buyers that refunds will be processed automatically, while cash-paying customers can collect refunds from the box office counter.
A statement from Victory Cinema read, "All Friday shows (9-Jan-26) of 'Jana Nayagan' at Victory Cinema are cancelled. Online tickets will be immediately refunded to their accounts. Cash tickets will be refunded at the counter from 8-Jan-26 morning."
KVN Productions officially confirmed the postponement via X, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control."
The statement continued, "We deeply understand the anticipation, excitement, and emotions surrounding this film, and this decision has not been an easy one for any of us. The new release date will be announced at the earliest. Until then, we humbly request your patience and continued love. Your unwavering support is our greatest strength and means everything to the entire Jana Nayagan team."
Jana Nayagan Cast
Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan features Vijay in the lead role alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain. The film has been presented as Vijay's last project before a full-time entry into politics.
