The Maharashtra government is set to launch its own mobile app-based passenger transport service to provide affordable, transparent, and employment-generating alternatives to private ride-hailing platforms. The initiative, spearheaded by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik aims to offer commuters access to taxis, auto-rickshaws and bike taxis through a government-backed platform.
Maharashtra Govt to Launch Alternative of Ola, Uber and Rapido
Addressing the media, Sarnaik said the app will provide "a people-centric solution" and help break the monopoly of private aggregators such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido. "This scheme will make lakhs of youth in Maharashtra self-reliant. Our government aims to offer an affordable, transparent alternative through a state-backed app," he announced.

Jai Maharashtra, Maha-Ride, Maha-Yatru or Maha-Go Ride Service
The service, which may be named Jai Maharashtra, Maha-Ride, Maha-Yatri, or Maha-Go, is being developed in collaboration with the Maharashtra Institute of Transport Technology (MITT), the MITRA Organisation, and private tech partners. A crucial meeting to finalise the app's structure and operational framework is scheduled for August 5 at Mantralaya, where senior officials, technical experts, and political leadership will review the platform's progress.
Transport officials confirmed that the final approval will come from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
The initiative is part of a broader employment-generation plan and a response to growing complaints of exploitation in the ride-hailing sector. Sarnaik criticised private aggregators for levying high commissions on drivers and imposing surge pricing on passengers. "This state-run app will follow the Central Aggregator Guidelines and ensure fair treatment for both commuters and service providers," he said.
Once launched, the app is expected to significantly alter the dynamics of urban transport in Maharashtra by leveraging government infrastructure and regulatory support. Officials claim it will not only reduce costs for passengers but also ensure better earnings for drivers by eliminating excessive commission cuts.
