An Ahmedabad-based institute, MICA, has introduced the School of Applied Creativity. This initiative aims to equip students with future skills in imagination, storytelling, media, and artificial intelligence (AI). The school, formerly known as Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad, will offer two main programmes starting in July 2026. These programmes will initially accommodate 80 to 100 students.

Jaya Deshmukh, MICA's Director and CEO, shared these details with reporters in Mumbai. The institute plans to expand its reach by offering online masterclasses in the coming years. This will allow students from across India and globally to access the courses. As AI continues to reshape industries, there is a growing demand for AI-trained professionals in India.
Addressing the AI Skills Gap
MICA's new school addresses this demand by merging creativity with technology, making applied creativity a vital skill. Deshmukh highlighted this approach as a strategic response to the current needs of the industry. The integration of creativity and technology is seen as essential for developing future-ready professionals.
Oscar-nominated filmmaker Shekhar Kapur joins the faculty as the chief mentor. His involvement brings a wealth of experience and insight into the creative process. Kapur's role is expected to inspire students and enhance their learning experience at the institute.
Legacy of Innovation
Tina Ambani, chairperson of MICA Foundation for Communications Research and Education, emphasised the institute's history of embracing digital trends early on. "We embraced digital when it was still emerging," she stated. "We brought design thinking into business education long before it became a buzzword."
Ambani further noted that MICA continues this legacy by acknowledging imagination as a crucial asset for the future. The institute aims to empower individuals to become creative leaders in an era dominated by imagination and innovation.
The launch of the School of Applied Creativity marks a significant step in preparing students for future challenges. By focusing on creativity and AI, MICA aims to bridge the gap between traditional education and modern industry demands.
