Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day working visit to the US from February 12 to 14, 2025. During this visit, he will hold a bilateral meeting with President Donald Trump, engage with business leaders, and meet members of the Indian diaspora.
Overview:
Wednesday, February 12, 2025: Modi is scheduled to arrive in Washington, D.C., USA.

Thursday, February 13, 2025: Modi will meet with President Trump at the White House. The discussions will cover key ongoing issues, including immigration, security, and trade. India is also considering lowering tariffs on electronics and medical goods to promote US exports and help address trade imbalances. Additionally, the leaders are likely to discuss defense partnerships, including potential agreements for India to buy and co-produce combat vehicles, as well as a deal for fighter jet engines.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced Modi's visit by stating that Modi's trip will provide renewed momentum and clear direction to the India-U.S. bilateral relationship.
"This will be the first visit of Prime Minister Modi to the United States since the inauguration of the second presidential term of President Donald Trump," he said. "The fact that the Prime Minister has been invited to visit the US within barely three weeks of the new administration taking office shows the importance of the India-US partnership and is also reflective of the bipartisan support this partnership enjoys in the US," Misri added.
Misri noted that a strong rapport has developed between Trump and Modi, dating back to the U.S. leader's first term.
"There is a clear convergence of interests between the two countries in several areas, including trade, investment, technology, defence cooperation, counterterrorism, Indo-Pacific security, and people-to-people relations," he said.
"The 5.4 million-strong Indian community in the US and the more than 350,000 Indian students pursuing higher education in American universities further strengthen this bond," Misri said.
"The Prime Minister's visit to the United States will provide further direction and momentum to this important partnership. We expect a joint statement to be adopted at the end of the visit, which will be shared in due course," he added.
Modi's US visit comes amid an ongoing controversy surrounding the 'inhumane' deportation of over 100 Indians from the US in a military jet.
