Mumbai airport to remain shut next week: Date, timings
The Mumbai airport closure for a fixed duration on Tuesday is reportedly on account of some scheduled post-monsoon maintenance work on the two runways at Mumbai Airport. This maintenance activity will be undertaken between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on October 17, Tuesday.
The airport operator said on X (formerly Twitter): "As a part of CSMIA's comprehensive post-monsoon runway maintenance plan, both runways - RWY 09/27 and RWY 14/32 will be temporarily non-operational on 17th October 2023, from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs. We look forward to the cooperation and support from our passengers."
The airport handles around 900 flights per day.
Why will Mumbai International Airport shut down its runways temporarily on October 17?
This scheduled closure of the airport's runways is part of CSMIA's annual post-monsoon preventive maintenance work.
According to the authorities, the main purpose of the scheduled closure is to undertake repair and maintenance activities which are important to uphold the airport's infrastructure to the highest standards.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Airport has started a specialized Disabled Aircraft Recovery Kit (DARK), which will lift and tow aircraft from the operations area in the eventuality of a mishap.
