Mumbai airport operator MIAL on Monday retracted an advisory about potential disruptions to SpiceJet flights. Shortly after, the airline announced it had collaborated with the operator to quickly resolve a minor financial issue. Specific details of the matter were not disclosed.

At approximately 7:30 pm on Monday, Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) posted an advisory on X, stating that SpiceJet operations might be disrupted from midnight on August 13. The advisory mentioned that efforts were being made to minimise passenger inconvenience. Less than an hour later, the post was deleted.
SpiceJet's Financial Challenges
The Gurugram-based airline has been grappling with liquidity problems for several quarters. It has been delaying salaries to employees and defaulting on statutory taxes and payments, among other issues. Despite these challenges, SpiceJet assured that its flight operations in and out of Mumbai are functioning normally.
Earlier, MIAL had indicated that effective midnight on August 13, SpiceJet's flight operations from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) were expected to be temporarily disrupted. The airport operator also stated it was working with the airline to address the situation to minimise passenger inconvenience.
Resolution and Assurance
A SpiceJet spokesperson said in a statement, "The passenger advisory issued by MIAL has been withdrawn. Our flight operations in and out of Mumbai are operating normally. SpiceJet and MIAL have worked collaboratively to swiftly resolve a minor financial matter." The airline reassured passengers that it remains committed to providing seamless travel experiences in Mumbai.
In a communication to its agents on Monday, SpiceJet clarified that it holds a substantial security deposit with MIAL, far exceeding the required amount. The finance teams of both entities worked together to resolve the situation, leading to the withdrawal of the passenger advisory by MIAL.
MIAL had advised passengers to connect with the SpiceJet helpdesk or call centre for updates on their flights. "Thank you for your understanding and cooperation," MIAL said in its post on X.
SpiceJet's statement highlighted that all passenger operations at Mumbai airport are functioning normally. The airline emphasised its commitment to ensuring seamless travel experiences for passengers despite ongoing financial challenges.
The swift resolution between SpiceJet and MIAL underscores their collaborative efforts to address financial matters promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to passengers.
