Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced that skill development centres in Borivali and Kandivali, Mumbai, aim to train around 10,000 youth over the next three years. "Our target is that in the coming three years, 10,000 youth will get skill training from these centres," said Goyal, who represents North Mumbai in the Lok Sabha.

Industry Collaboration for Skill Development
Goyal emphasised that these centres will serve as a model for promoting skill development through industry collaboration. He assured that jobs would be guaranteed for those who successfully complete their training. The centres will offer various vocational courses, focusing on niche areas like hospitality, which is rapidly expanding.
Extensive Training Programs
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) suggested that Japan has a shortage of 400,000 skilled workers. Goyal mentioned plans to provide extensive Japanese language training to skilled individuals, almost ensuring them high-paying jobs in Japan. "So we are looking at multiple dimensional training in a variety of areas," he added.
Skill Development Minister Jayant Chaudhary pledged full support from his ministry for the development of these centres. One centre will be managed by the Apparel, Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council.
A Sakthivel, Chairman of the Apparel, Made-Ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council, highlighted the employment opportunities these centres would create for skilled youth. "At our centre, we will be targeting AI tech machinery and we all also talk about fashion consultants and coordinators, regular tailors, latest tech design and fashion designs. We will start with 2,500 students and then it will increase later," Sakthivel said.
Goyal noted that youth from across states could come to these centres for training. He believes this initiative will significantly contribute to skill development in the state.
