The third day of Navratri 2025, which falls on a Wednesday, holds profound spiritual significance for devotees across the country. As part of the ongoing nine-day festival, worshippers observe traditional rituals, dress in auspicious colours, and participate in morning and evening pujas to seek blessings for protection, prosperity, and inner peace. Here's a detailed look at the Day 3 deity, symbolic colour, puja rituals and more.
Navratri Day 3: Maa Chandraghanta Puja Today
On the third day of Navratri 2025, which falls on a Wednesday, devotees across India will celebrate Maa Chandraghanta, the married form of Goddess Parvati. This day is considered spiritually significant as it symbolises happiness, peace and the removal of suffering. As part of the Navratri festivities, devotees observe traditional rituals to honour the goddess and seek her blessings for courage, serenity, and well-being.

Know About Maa Chandraghanta and Her Significance, Symbolism
Maa Chandraghanta is known for her powerful and protective form. She is depicted with ten hands, each carrying symbolic items: her left hands hold a Trishul (trident), Gada (mace), Sword, and Kamandal (water pot), while her right hands carry a Lotus flower, Arrow, Dhanush (bow), and Japa Mala (rosary).
Her remaining two hands display the Varada Mudra (gesture of boon-giving) and Abhaya Mudra (gesture of protection). These attributes represent both ferocity in battle and compassion toward her devotees, symbolising the duality of strength and grace.
The name Chandraghanta is derived from a story in Hindu mythology. After marrying Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati assumed a form with a crescent moon (Chandra) on her forehead shaped like a bell (Ghanta). Hence, she came to be known as Chandraghanta, symbolising the awakening of divine energy and the removal of negative vibrations.
Navratri 2025 Day 3 Puja Timings
Devotees observe the Day 3 puja with strict attention to muhurat (auspicious timings). As per DrikPanchang, the Brahma Muhurta is between 4:35 am to 5:23 am, ideal for meditation and spiritual practices. The Pratah Sandhya or morning twilight is from 4:59 am to 6:10 am. Later in the day, Vijaya Muhurta falls between 2:14 pm and 3:02 pm, while the Godhuli Muhurta, associated with peace and transition, is from 6:15 pm to 6:39 pm.
Navratri Day 3 Colour: Which Colour To Wear on Third Day of Navratri?
Each Navratri day is symbolised by a unique colour. For Day 3, the colour is Royal Blue, which signifies tranquillity, depth, and opulence. It also reflects Maa Chandraghanta's dual nature-her calming influence on devotees and her fierce stance against evil. Wearing this colour is believed to please the goddess and invite her blessings.
Durga Puja Rituals Performed on Navratri Third Day
The third day of Navratri begins with Kalash Sthapana, the ritual of installing a sacred pot to invite divine energy into the home. Devotees chant "Om Devi Chandraghantayai Namah" to invoke the goddess. Offerings such as jasmine flowers, milk, fruits, sweets, and kheer are made during the puja. The rituals typically conclude with aarti, using a diya (lamp) and camphor, creating a spiritually charged environment.
Many devotees observe a strict fast on the third day of Navratri. Some may consume only fruits or milk, while others may opt for a nirjala vrat (fast without water). Fasting is seen as a form of self-discipline and devotion. At the end of the day, many also participate in charitable acts, such as distributing food, donating clothes, or supporting those in need. These actions are considered spiritually rewarding and are said to invoke prosperity, health, and peace in the devotee's life.
