As November 2025 begins, traders and investors in India are gearing up for a series of scheduled market holidays. According to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) holiday calendar, both the NSE and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed for a total of 11 days during the month.

Calendar of stock market holidays in November includes ten weekend holidays; five Saturdays and five Sundays along with one special trading holiday on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, to mark the auspicious occasion of Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birth anniversary. The festival, commonly known as Guru Nanak Jayanti, is among the most significant Sikh celebrations, observed with devotion and grandeur across India and around the world.

On November 5, all major market segments will remain closed in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti. Trading in equities, equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), currency derivatives, and electronic gold receipts (EGR) will be suspended for the day.
This closure honors Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. His teachings emphasize values such as equality, humility, compassion, and service to humanity. Across India, the day will be marked by prayers, processions, kirtans (devotional songs), and community meals (langars) organized in gurdwaras.
NSE Holiday Calendar 2025: Key Highlights
The NSE's official holiday calendar for 2025 includes a total of 14 trading holidays throughout the year, excluding weekends. These holidays are announced well in advance to allow investors and institutions to plan their trading activities efficiently.
After the November 5 market closure, the next scheduled holiday will fall on December 25, 2025, in observance of Christmas Day. The December closure marks the final trading holiday of the year.
Except for these declared holidays and regular weekend breaks, stock market operations will continue as usual on all other weekdays in November.
Regular Trading Hours on Indian Stock Exchanges
On trading days, both the NSE and BSE follow a standardized schedule designed to ensure orderly and transparent market activity. The daily operations are divided into multiple sessions, each serving a specific purpose:
Pre-open session: 9:00 a.m. to 9:08 a.m.
During this window, investors can place, modify, or cancel orders. The pre-open session helps determine the opening price of securities, ensuring a smooth transition into the main trading session.
Normal trading hours: 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This is the main session when most market activity occurs, including buying and selling across all segments.
Closing session: 3:40 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
During this brief session, traders can place orders at the closing price determined by the exchange, providing an opportunity for end-of-day adjustments.
Block deal sessions:
These are designated windows for large institutional trades.
Morning session: 8:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Afternoon session: 2:05 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.
