OpenAI has successfully concluded its Nonprofit AI Jam series in India, aimed at helping nonprofits effectively deploy artificial intelligence. The initiative involved hands-on sessions across major cities, focusing on utilising AI tools to enhance operations and decision-making.
OpenAI recently wrapped up its India edition of the Nonprofit AI Jam, a series of events held in multiple cities. This initiative aimed to unite leaders and professionals for practical sessions on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve scalable and effective results. The events took place in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and New Delhi, in collaboration with Karya and supported by Wadhwani AI as the knowledge partner.

Participants engaged directly with facilitators and technical experts during the sessions. They explored how AI tools like ChatGPT can enhance operations, improve outreach, strengthen programme delivery, and aid decision-making. The Nonprofit AI Jam aims to help nonprofits transition from merely experimenting with AI to actual deployment.
AI's Role in India's Nonprofit Sector
India's nonprofit sector is diverse and deeply rooted, with grassroots organisations addressing challenges in education, healthcare, livelihoods, inclusion, and community resilience. OpenAI emphasised its commitment to making advanced AI accessible not only to large organisations but also to teams working closely with communities. This helps them identify and implement practical AI applications in the social sector.
The Delhi edition of the Nonprofit AI Jam brought together organisations focusing on education, public health, skilling, climate action, and gender inclusion. Participants tackled live operational challenges such as enhancing beneficiary outreach and automating internal workflows. They collaborated throughout the day to develop practical AI solutions tailored to their organisational needs.
Collaborative Efforts for Practical Solutions
The event highlighted OpenAI's dedication to ensuring that advanced AI technology is useful for both large organisations and smaller teams working directly with communities. By fostering collaboration among participants, the Nonprofit AI Jam facilitated the development of tailored AI solutions that address specific organisational challenges.
This initiative reflects OpenAI's broader goal of promoting the use of AI in various sectors by providing hands-on experience and expert guidance. By doing so, they aim to empower nonprofits to effectively integrate AI into their operations for improved outcomes.
The Nonprofit AI Jam serves as a platform for nonprofits to move beyond experimentation with AI tools towards real-world application. By engaging with experts and peers, participants gained valuable insights into how AI can be leveraged to address pressing social issues effectively.
